Baptisms (also known as Christenings)

Any child or adult who lives in Christ Church parish is welcome to be baptised at Christ Church.
If you're not sure whether you live in our parish or not, as we're not the church for the whole of Ashton, please visit Parish Finder. Just put in your postcode and it will tell you which is your local parish church.
If we're your local church, please come to one of our office hours, which are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month in the church between 12pm and 1pm, and we'll be happy to take your booking.
If we're not your local church, but you have family connections here, please come and speak to one of the team who will be able to advise you on whether we can help or not.
There is no charge for baptism. The Church of England believes that this is God's free gift, offered to anybody who wants it.
Keeping Christ Church open and available for you to use costs an immense amount of money, though, and we rely on donations to do this. We do have collection plates out at the back of the church at baptism services and anybody who wants to help us keep the church open by giving a donation can do so, though whether you do that is entirely up to you.
When a child is baptised, he or she will need to have at least three godparents, with at least one man and one woman, who should be baptised and of an age where they are able to understand their duties and take them seriously. We offer a preparation session, which all godparents should attend, and our team will tell you more about that when you come in - it's nothing to worry about and is completely painless!
